Sauvez les petite bebe phoques! As a few of you know, I am a rabid seal lover. As such, I make a point of doing anything I can to actively protest the Canadian seal hunts every year at about this time. (The hunts will be starting soon off the coasts of Labrador, Newfoundland and in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.) With all the politics involved, these protests and petitions don’t usually do much good, but just passing the word along that something like this is happening is enough to make me feel better, since I lack any real political sway or influence in the world. Of course, don’t feel pressured to visit this site or sign the petition. I understand that not everyone will agree with me, or share my love for seals, but I figured I would toss the links out there for those of you who might want to know more about it or help out. ^^ For those who want more info, the best site for this topic is: www.harpseals.org/index.php (I’ve been visiting this one for years now.) Here is an online petition with signatures from around the world: www.thepetitionsite.com/4/Canadian-Seals-Need-Your-Help/

Thanks for the link!
I signed. <3 Killing animals out of necessity for food or whatever is one thing, but to kill them solely for a fur market where you have to first hunt down a buyer that isn't banning them is something completely different ( I understand they sale for pretty cheap, too, so it's not like the sealers are turning some huge profit here ). I think it was especially horrible what they did that one year, when they threw the pelts into the ocean because they couldn't find a buyer. So many baby seals suffered and died needlessly then — the sealers didn't use any part of them!
Not to mention all the cruelty, which can be rather graphic, disgusting, and heart-rending.
Here's to hoping the sealers will one day find a more profitable, more humane means of making a living!
