“It's not so simple as that!”
Mildly shocked at the sudden outburst, Russia stared at the Baltic as he withdrew his slender arm from his grasp. It was as simple as that as far as he was concerned. He couldn’t understand why Toris would be in such a state over something he really had no control over. It was a silly as throwing a fit over the weather. As much as Ivan hated the snow and cold, he did not yell and scream at General Winter over it. He suffered in silence, knowing that there was nothing he could do about it and that his complaints would fall on deaf, uncaring ears.
The distressed Lithuanian started to say more, before quickly stopping mid sentence and then lowering his voice. A pair of shadowy shapes emerged from the increasingly heavy snowfall, making their way towards the pair of countries slowly.
“Just kiss me like that...like a... like a lover...and then say that it's simple.”
Taking notice of the other man’s scarlet cheeks, Ivan watched his servant in silence. He had figured that the reddening had originally been from the alcohol, but he was starting to think it was perhaps anger that colored the other nation’s face. Though he himself was not prone to these outbursts, he had seen bosses of the past get so angry that their faces had grown red. It had been puzzling for the blonde, who showed very little of his more violent emotions on his face. Was Toris actually angry with him over such a trivial thing as a kiss? It was oddly amusing to think about, since meek little Toris had all the power of a newborn kitten next to him.
“It's not simple.”
Toris had switched languages now, speaking in the tongue that only nations knew. Even though he understood that the other nation had probably switched to avoid anyone of the passersbys from listening in, a part of the violet-eyed Russian was annoyed and irritated by the gesture. It had been so long since he had allowed Toris to use a language other than his own, that the words sounded almost strange coming from him.
“For you maybe...I don't understand how the world is for you...but it's not simple for me at all. I...you...I can't...”
He was getting more confused by the moment, which was quickly leading to irritation. The other man was making no sense to him at all. As far as he was concerned things really were painfully simple. Feelings were not nearly as complex as Toris was making them out to be. They couldn’t be. He had even made it simpler for Toris by stating that the man had no choice at all about things concerning Ivan. Politics and matters of the state were complex and confusing, relationship related things were not as far as Ivan was concerned.
With the Baltic’s next bought of words, it became clear to Ivan that the other nation was past drunk and into the “completely smashed” category. If he really felt like that, he would be a total mess. No country could have so many conflicting emotions unless their people were starting to feel very split on certain issues. Countries aside, as a person, nobody could possibly be so divided on their feelings as that, could they? It did not seem to him like they should be able to.
Toris made the curious claim that he thought Ivan was going to hurt him, only to follow up with that it would not be in a completely physical way. Did Toris really expect him to mentally torture him? Why would he possibly do that, when he had no reason? He was a merciful master, why would he punish Lithuania when the other nation had not done anything to merit such treatment? For all his sadism, he still required a reason to inflict punishment on his servants, be it a good one of not.
Being referred to as “simple” as though it were a bad thing only added to his discontentment. He was simple in matters where he needed to be simple. In matters where is was best have more simplistic views. He did not like to think of himself as merely a “simplistic” nation however, and he found the title very much to his distaste. Perhaps Toris was trying to get him upset, in hopes that such an act would put a stop to any feelings he had for the Baltic.
“I think you're going to really break my heart.”
The sentence raised his confusion to its peak. As quiet as the snow that surrounded them, he considered exactly what he thought the Baltic meant with his rant. As best as he could understand- which was not much since they were dealing with the topic of emotions which he found puzzling in general- Toris was angry because he did not like to be kissed as a lover. He was also upset because Russia was not giving him a choice in the matter, and he found Ivan to be too simplistic in his views on matters of the heart. The servant nation somehow both liked Ivan and did not like him at the same time, which was perhaps the most confusing thing of all. And yet he was worried about his heart being broken, which made Ivan’s head hurt to think about. How could he break the other man’s heart if Toris did not want to think of him that way to begin with? Unless he was breaking his heart by thinking of Toris in a more romantic light, which made even less sense to the baffled blonde.
“Please...can you take me home now?”
He stared at the Lithuanian with a look of confused dismay. “I don’t understand you at all, Litva.” He grabbed the man’s arm roughly, prying it away from his body again and trying to lead he servant along in the direction of the Winter Palace. “You are making things sound way too complicated. You can’t both like and dislike someone at the same time. It is not possible.” He stared ahead in contemplation. “I can’t break your heart, because according to you I don’t have it to begin with. Not by your consent anyways.”
“It is sad that you don’t view me that way. Maybe some day you’ll change your mind and realize that without me, you have nothing. That’s alright, I am not giving you a choice right now, so you don’t need to even think such confusing and nonsensical things."
He lowered his voice to a dangerous level, allowing his tone to showcase his discontentment with the refusal.
“Watch your tongue though, my little Baltic. You’re skating on thin ice right now and I won’t be so nice and forgiving if you insist on being difficult.”
