This is for England, France, Holy Roman Empire, North Italy, South Italy, Spain and Turkey
I'm putting this request in as something to consider as we get new members who are looking for plot threads (and so I can pm them and point them to this post as they come). I know I'm not going to want to send 6 pms each time I want to write about this subject.
I have been dying to enact the Italian Wars. I know that not everyone is involved in each war so if we want to go out of chronological order and start with a war that has less people involved, we'd have to discuss how France, Spain and the Italian states felt going into the war. However, I am perfectly fine with starting with the first one and do all of them!
I did some initial research and found a list of battles. These are probably the larger battles, but I had a hard time finding an extra list, so I don't know if you guys want to do specific battles or the whole war. Let me know what you guys think.
For all the parties that were listed in the thread title, as you do your research, you will realize that not all of you are involved in EVERY war (and HRE, you technically belong to me for a period of time, so we'll need to talk out how to play that). These are the involved parties I have for each of the battles:
- Italian War (1494–1498): France, Papal States, Republic of Venice, Kingdom of Naples, Spain, Duchy of Milan, Holy Roman Empire
- Italian War (1499 – 1504): France, Spain, Republic of Venice, Duchy of Milan, Kingdom of Naples
- War of the League of Cambrai (1508 – 1516): Papal States, France, Holy Roman Empire, Spain, Duchy of Ferrara, Republic of Venice
- Italian War (1521 – 1526): France, Republic of Venice, Empire of Charles V (Spain & Holy Roman Empire), Kingdom of England, Papal States
- War of the League of Cognac (1526 - 1530): Empire of Charles V (Spain & Holy Roman Empire), Republic of Genoa, France, Papal States, Republic of Venice, Republic of Florence, Kingdom of England, Duchy of Milan
- Italian War (1536–1538): France, Empire of Charles V (Spain & Holy Roman Empire), Duchy of Milan, Ottoman Empire
- Italian War (1542–1546): France, Ottoman Empire, Jülich-Cleves-Berg, Kingdom of England, Saxony, Brandenburg, Empire of Charles V (Spain & Holy Roman Empire)
- Italian War (1551–1559): France, Republic of Siena, Ottoman Empire, Spanish Empire, Holy Roman Empire, England, Duchy of Florence, Duchy of Savoy
N. Italy, you will discover that you have a split personality because Milan and Venice do not seem to play together very well. I'll leave it to you to figure out how you wanna do that.
Once we have a war picked out, since there's a lot of us, we can also work out a posting order as well. This isn't to put pressure on you guys to get your posts done, but just to make sure we know who's posting next and see if we are missing anyone. Obviously, not all of us are there at the first year of battle, so we would skip certain people until they can jump in.
I started my initial reading at these sites:
- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italian_Wars
- library.thinkquest.org/C005356/e-italian.htm
Please reply to this thread with your thoughts so we know what you think, thanks!
