Date: 27 kesäkuu 2011 Mood: recharged! Listening to: “Tyttö joka katsoo merelle” – Teleks Home again~ Ahhh, Midsummer was as fun as ever! Spending time with the brothers is always great (even if it totally depletes my stash of Koskenkorva). I honestly don't remember much of Midsummer Night between the time I challenged Tanska to a drinking contest after we lit the bonfire until the time I woke up in the back of Ruotsi's V70. For some reason, the back hatch was open and only about half of me was in the car. My legs were in, but upper half was hanging out. I'd also somehow managed to switch clothes with Viro and had an inexplicable sense of shame... Typical Midsummer! So long, cottage and hello again, Helsinki! Back to work now! --Rakkaudella.

Date: 07 heinäkuu 2011 Mood: Errr... Listening to: “Saippuakupla” – Kymppilinja The news this week... Not so good. So the World Health Org did a study and death by alcohol is the leading cause of death in Finland. Finnish alcohol consumption is above the EU average and Finns drink more than Swedes, Icelanders and Norwegians. A tenth of all Finnish alcohol consumers are addicted. It's... kind of embarrassing to see it all published... It's not like this is new to me, but it got me wondering... Do I drink so much because my people do, or do my people drink so much because I do? I'm going to feel really bad if it's the latter, so I'm going to do my best to cut back. Hopefully my people will do their best, too~ A doctor is saying that swine flu vaccine has been correlated with narcolepsy in children and parents are in an uproar over whether or not they'll be compensated. I don't know whether or not I believe him. It seems like everyone wants to blame things on vaccines these days, so who knows? The central bank is worried about foreign monetary issues affecting our stability. We have a few internal problems, but they're more worried about the rest of the EU. Ahhh, but I really don't want to get into that again. Too much relation to the True Finns... *sigh* In slightly happier news, presidential candidates for next year's election are starting to trickle in. Herra Sauli Niinistö seems to be the favorite right now. The Swedish People's Party and the Centre Party are thinking of backing him. I wish him and the other candidates good luck~ Oh, well sometimes the news isn't great. Next week will be better, I'm sure~ Besides, summer is still going strong! -- Rakkaudella.

Date: 12 heinäkuu 2011 Mood: tired and awkwardly feminine Listening to: “Reggaerekka” – Lord Est feat. Petri Nygård Finavia reported today that nearly twenty percent more people this year than last year had flown out of the Helsinki-Vantaa hub. That’s a lot of people! All the activity makes me exhausted~ But in a good way! Finavia expects even more people to start flying now that we have an airport in Chongqing (which might be why I’ve been craving spicy hot pot recently… Chinese influx!) Also, I got caught up in the trend of buying those little hipster accessories my people have been raving over recently. I came back from a shopping trip in Espoo today with a lacquer cloudberry phone strap, a bunch of really fancy throw pillows with lace, yarn and buttons (etc.), some bird Christmas ornaments made of floral silk and a silver hairclip with two little coffee beans attached to it. …I have no explanation. Going into those little boutiques… It was hypnotizing! They have everything displayed in such a cool way and the way the light hits everything just makes you NEED to buy something! Ahh, but I don’t know if I’m ever going to use anything I bought aside from the phone strap and maybe the hairclip because it involves coffee…I know I’m a man, dammit. I might just hide my expensive vintage shame in the coat closet before Tanska finds it… *sigh* Oh, well~ At least the government still pays me well for being Suomen Tasavalta! I can afford to splurge every once in awhile. --Rakkaudella.

Date: 18 heinäkuu 2011 Mood: even more tired...if that were possible Listening to: “U.S.A.” – Lovex My people want to have more babies. Four fifths of mothers with one child want more, and the number of women who want three children is just the same as the number that want only two. Though my... their... our(?) fertility rate is about 1.9, the lowest of all my brothers' countries, it's higher than the EU's average. ...Ladies, give me a break. I barely made it through Midsummer! I don't know if I can handle a baby boom! *pant pant* The only thing stopping them from... well, breeding like rabbits is the fact that there's too much unemployment. Most people can't afford large families, which is sad, but it's probably for the best if there's not enough jobs. And on top of that, there's a new law, the Nationality Act, allowing people who have previously held Finnish citizenship to reclaim their citizenship. The Immigration Service is expecting the number of returning Finns to double to about 9,000... That's so many~! I've been in Naantali over the weekend along with President Halonen to meet with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. There was a public forum on Saturday to discuss sustainable development and green energy and Secretary General Ban and his wife stayed at my boss' summer home. It was a productive weekend, but I'm happy to be back in Helsinki. There's...also a really weird discussion that's been brought up by my new justice minister. She wants to introduce voluntary chemical castration for sex offenders... That... Ouch. That makes me hurt... Who would volunteer for that? Ah, the days are starting to shorten. It's almost five before the sun rises, now, and it's only ten when it sets. Soon it'll be autumn... *sigh* I guess I'll enjoy the nice weather while I can! Maybe go to the lake for a swim later~ --Rakkaudella.

Date: 24 heinäkuu 2011 Mood: going to be okay Listening to: --
Norja is alright. Well, not alright, but he'll make it. The man at fault has been caught and there's to be a memorial service for all the victims later today.
I still can't believe that something like this could happen... Nearly a hundred people died in one day, and all at the hands of one man. Nothing like this has happened since WW2.
But Norja and his people are tough. They'll get through it.
I'll be in Oslo through tomorrow before returning to Helsinki. And then I'll have to deal with all these effects of the emergency summit in Brussels last Thursday and the Greece bail-out... *sigh* I can't even begin to think about that right now.
Stay strong, everyone. Onnea.
--Rakkaudella.

Date: 28 heinäkuu 2011 Mood: *sigh* Listening to: “Save The World” – Swedish House Mafia This whole thing with Norja really couldn't have happened at a worse time. My government's making so many changes that even I'm feeling paranoid. Of course the True Finns are under heavy scrutiny. Again. The liberals are worried they're Right Wing extremists, too. There were new, stricter gun policies enacted in June, and the government wants to create even more. They want there to be laws making it harder to obtain explosives, including one chemical found in fertilizer. Ammonium nitrate, I think it was. The right to assembly and hate speech are also being closely examined. These changes are for the better, I hope. I don't want my people to lose their liberties, but I want them to be safe. It's such a delicate balance. Today, after working with my bosses, I walked past the Norwegian Embassy. It was beautiful in a bittersweet way; there were so many candles and roses in memory of those who died. I'm glad that my people care so much for their neighbors. It gives me a little hope in times like these. --Rakkaudella.

Date: 04 elokuu 2011 Mood: better... much better Listening to: “Mökkitie” – Arttu Wiskari There's a huge movement for bans on hate-speech right now in light of what happened to Norja. I think it's a good thing, I just don't want them to take it too far. There's a fine line between expressing a negative opinion and expressing hate, and I don't want the former to be banned, too. But in less stressful news, all of my banks have passed the EU-wide stress test. I'm so relieved! Sales are up in my companies, even though inflation is still an issue. It seems like my economy is going to be alright. I was even determined to be the second most innovative and competitive nation by the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation. Singapore was first, Sweden was third and America was the fourth. The Millennium Youth Camp is one of the ways I'm displaying this knack for innovation - it's a camp for students from all over the world that are specializing in math and science to learn and to participate in service projects. I think it's wonderful that we have opportunities like that. It makes me feel good about the future. I think we're going to be okay now. --Rakkaudella.

Date: 20 elokuu 2011 Mood: not sick! Listening to: “En mitään, En ketään” – Juha Tapio After two grueling weeks of being low and volatile, my stock markets have shot back up. Words cannot express how good it feels~ I don't think I've felt like this since I healed from my stock market crash in the '90s. My boss even let me go home. There was a bust on a big drug operation on Wednesday. Some young adults were using Facebook to order LSD from the Netherlands. I'm disappointed that so many youth would throw their lives away doing something like that. I wonder if Netherlands knew? Besides, when you have vodka, why would you need drugs? The Dalai Lama was in Espoo today. Since my stock market has been so stable, my boss let me go to the forums. I'm not Buddhist, so I didn't really understand the Eight Verses of the Mind Training, but the other talk he did, "Power of Compassion", was very compelling! There was a huge turnout, too- around 10,000 people! It's good to be back in business~ --Rakkaudella.

Date: 25 elokuu 2011 Mood: a little stressed, but pretty content~ Listening to: “Vaaran Päällä” – Stella This deal with Greece is not going as smoothly as I would've liked. Germany's boss sure doesn't seem happy with us... Last week, Greece transferred a sum of money to Finnish state accounts to be invested in low-risk bonds. It was supposed to cover the interest on long-term loans. Already, the Centre has accused Herra Katainen of wasting Finland's political capital and our influence in the EU, and Rouva Merkel said she'd reject ours and any other nation's Greek guarantees. Well, then... Ah, but as the presidential candidates continue to become clear, not all hope is lost. I'm getting very excited for the election, but I hope there's no tension! *cough*TrueFinns*cough* Oh dear, excuse me; I must be coming down with something... --Rakkaudella.
