[[A/N: Finnish Blog! I've decided to create a character blog for Fin, as you can see. Everyone else's activity here motivated me. *nod nod*
The entries will cover various cultural and political current events happening in Finland and Scandinavia. For example, the 'Listening to' section will always be a song from the Finnish top 20 charts. Mostly, this is a way to force myself to research and learn more about the country I love so dearly. If citations are requested for anything I write about, I'll do my best to provide links. Updates will be sporadic, but I'll try to post at least once monthly. And definitely do not quote me on anything I write here. I'll do my best to use factual Finnish sources and stay culturally correct, but I'm likely to make mistakes. Like I said, I'm still learning!]]

Date: 18 huhtikuu 2011 Mood: relieved~ Listening to: “Heavy” – Lauri Ylönen
Parliamentary elections are finally over! Maybe this tension in my shoulders will go away now~
Don’t get me wrong, elections are so exciting! I love waiting to see how my people will choose to have themselves represented. They sure do leave me tired, though – especially this one. There was such a huge turnover in power and so many rating changes that my whole body is tingling. I still can’t believe the huge increase in favor of the Perussuomalaiset; going from five seats to thirty nine is incredible!
My people are so funny sometimes; aside from the PS, the only party whose rating increased was the Piraattipuolue. I know they’re not actually pirates who ride around on ships with black flags and that go around plundering like in America’s movies, but it does give you that mental image… Herra Palmulehto would look very right wearing a pirate costume, I think. Maybe he should have a parrot?
Ahh, but I do wish all of my new leaders the best of luck! I’m sure they’ll take good care of me. Party aside, in the end, they just want what’s best for everyone [or so I’d like to believe.]

Date: 21 huhtikuu 2011 Mood: *sigh* Listening to: “Mä annan sut pois” – Laura Närhi
Oh, dear. I thought the tension would go away after elections were over. I was wrong. It’s a thousand times worse. So much for keeping a positive outlook on this.
Everyone’s panicking. My people are claiming that they won’t leave their house for four years or that they’re going to move away. “Finland in dark ages” was actually the title of an article from Ovi. Sweden’s mad at me and I’m sure Greece and Ireland and Portugal won’t be pleased because of the bailout situation. Xenophobic – they keep calling me xenophobic. They’re worried that I’ll leave the European Union. They’re saying this solution is like slapping a bandage on a bullet wound.
I understand the worry. I really do. After the civil war, it seems backwards to take this big step towards socialism. I guess I can’t expect my people to always share my views; how could they when their lives are so brief? Their points of view are limited to a short eighty years. They haven’t seen what we’ve seen. They want change and this was a quick way of obtaining it.
They’re calling my national identity into question. I wasn’t even aware I had one. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been shuffled back and forth between Swedish and Russian rule. I’m barely a nation. I’m not even a century old. I know this might not be the most delicate way of going about it, what with voting in the PS, but I wish everyone could just be happy that I’m taking steps to make a name for myself. Maybe it’s the wrong name, but it’s still a name and that’s a start. I’m tired of being the remnants of the Kingdom of Sweden and the Russian Duchy. I want to be Suomen tasavalta.
When America voted in his revolutionary President Obama, the world celebrated. When my people voted in the revolutionary PS to parliament, the world got angry.
So I'm left wondering – WHO THE HELL VOTED THEM IN?! There was a fifteen percent increase; I know someone had to have voted for them! Someone needs to step up!
Hyh, hitto… It’s going to be a long four years. I need an Ibuxin.

Date: 01 toukokuu 2011 Mood: ughhhhhhajfkd;ajfk; Listening to: my head pounding
Ughhhh… I overdid it on the sima and tippalëipa last night. It was just so good. I feel awful now. I really should learn to control myself. Well, at least it’s not like I let myself go like this every year.
Okay, yes I do.
Those people who let me pass out sit on their blanket at the bonfire were really nice. I wish I could remember their names… Anssi? Altti? Antti? Something with an A. I think this is his student cap.
God, I feel awful.
I tried to read the Julkku but the tiny print made me nauseas.
My head is killing me. I still smell like smoke and alcohol. My teeth feel like they’re covered in reindeer velvet and I can’t even begin to describe the horror that is my breath. And I don’t know what this stain on my shirt is, but I seriously hope it’s just mead.
…
Vappu is awesome.

Date: 04 toukokuu 2011 Mood: pumped!! JOO! Listening to: “Vääryyttä!!1!” - Apulanta Cleaning Finland is in two days! Back a few years ago, Brother Viro started an organization called Let's Do It! [not as dirty as it sounds] in order to clean up the environment. He raves over how great it is and this year it's my turn to find out firsthand! Just imagining the way it'll feel to have all that pollution gone... <3 I even hear that Russia and Ukraine are having their own programs this year. I wish the best to both of them and their peoples' efforts. Oh, but it's super embarrassing to have your polluted areas mapped out online for everyone to see... The days are getting long now, too. Sixteen hours of daylight in Helsinki and seventeen in Lapland - Midsummer's on its way! --Rakkaudella.

Date: 08 toukokku 2011 Mood: uneasy Listening to: “Poika (Saunoo)” - Poju When most people think of Finns, they probably think of quiet, well-mannered people. I’d say it’s safe to bet that they don’t think of the hysterics my people have been going through recently and [unless we’re speaking of a brief period in the past] they surely don’t think of killers. I don’t know what to think anymore. Someone sent an email to MP Olli Immonen telling him to kill Jussi Halla-aho. If he didn’t, they threatened to kill Herra Immonen’s children instead. Both Herra Immonen and Herra Halla-aho are True Finns. I understand that not everyone’s thrilled with the idea of having them in power, but death threats…? *sigh* Sadly, they’re not the only ones who have received threats. If the media keeps raging and stirring up trouble like it does, they won’t be the last. I hope this doesn’t turn into something worse than it already is… It’s not just politics that has my people panicking. Food additives. Really, they’re panicking over food additives. They don’t want their children to eat school-provided lunches because they think pasteurized milk is poison and that everything contains MSG. I’m not an expert on this, but the way I see it, no one’s forcing them to eat processed food. In fact, my people consume some of the lowest amounts of produce in all of Europe; it’d be better if they didn’t eat processed foods! I want to go back to being out of the spotlight for a while, I think. --Rakkaudella

Date: 15 toukokkuu 2011 Mood: a little sad... but hopeful Listening to: --
Not such a great competition for my people; Suomi took 21st place. Ah, but at least we didn't take last. Poor Brother Viro... 24th place. Ouch. I feel bad for Sveitsi taking last.
Oh, well. It was fun and I like that we can all come together over something other than wars. It's always so awesome to see the audience with their faces painted and waving their flags. Thanks to Saksa for putting together a great show!
Congratulations to Azerbaijan! We'll win there next year, for sure! Oh, and Ruotsi did so well! I'm so proud of him! Even Tanska made it to the top five! I'm sure they'll be celebrating all night. As for me, I'm off to bed. All this suspense has made me sleepy~

Date: 25 toukokku 2011 Mood: optimistic Listening to: “Häissä” – Jare & VilleGalle ft. Märkä-Simo Prime Minister Katainen finally gave some word on how the Finnish government formation negotiations have been going these past several days. He says that the main focus is on eliminating poverty and increasing economic growth. It's always a nice thing to hear! It seems that any talks about us joining NATO have just been rumors. I'm a little nervous because no one seems to want to talk about how well the six parties have been getting along, though Herra Katainen says there's been a "good atmosphere". Ah, but until something more definite is said, I'll keep my head up about this! Speaking of atmospheres, the ash cloud from Grimsvötn is supposed to reach here today. Poor Islanti; those frequent eruptions can't feel nice. I'm happy that our airlines haven't shut down yet. In other good news, elk vs. auto accidents have significantly decreased. --Rakkaudella.

Date: 01 kesäkuu 2011 Mood: happy (no more seasonal affective disorder~) Listening to: “Silkkii” – Jukka Poika Ahhhh, summer's here! This heatwave has me feeling so peaceful~ I love these long, 25 degree days. I can't even be bothered to worry about the government talks right now. At least everyone seems to be working well together to prevent any more craziness for the moment. I'm proud of Herra Katainen for handling the positive discrimination situation so well, though I'm not sure I agree with his sentiment that there is no alternative to nuclear power for our country. Oh, well... This is going to be a great month! Outdoor rock festivals under the midnight sun, Ruotsi's birthday, going swimming in the lakes, making bonfires for juhannus, being able to go outside without wearing all the clothes in your closet... Kesäloma starts soon for the students, so I'm sure we'll see a boom in tourism. Everyone seems so relaxed; I think the heat puts everyone a little more at ease. Truly, this is a good time to be Suomi~ --Rakkaudella.

Date: 11 kesäkuu 2011 Mood: the nervousness is back... Listening to: “Tuntematon potilas” – Arttu Wiskari What a stressful week in politics! I thought I was going to have a new prime minister for a few days there. Herra Katainen was having trouble forming a government and the National Coalition threatened to replace him. Nobody seemed willing to work with anybody else; the Greens wouldn't work with a center right government, the Social Democrats won't work with a red-blue government, no one wants anything to do with the True Finns... Talks between the National Coalition, the Social Democrats, the Left Alliance, the Green League, the Christian Democrats and the Swedish People's Party reopen on Monday. I guess taking the True Finns out of the equation might be for the best right now. They're still standing firmly against the EU bailouts, and... It's just not a good time. Now that the German government has decided to close down all of their nuclear power plants in the next ten years, my government's also worried about what we'll do. A third of our power is nuclear, so shutting down all of our plants isn't feasible right now. On top of that, they've found E. coli in Finnish borders. I really can't afford to get sick while all of these government talks are going on. [sigh...] I'm going to bake out all these tensions in the sunlight. Thank goodness for these 20-hour days. --Rakkaudella.

Date: 21 kesäkuu 2011 Mood: ~! Listening to: “Mielihyvää” – Jukka Poika Packing to go to cottage with the brothers tomorrow! Finally I'll have a chance to get away from Helsinki and disconnect from the government a little~ President Halonen and Prime Minister Katainen even promised not to call me about work until Monday unless something major happens like we end up going to war. I'm not expecting anything. For once my phone will be free for nothing but Angry Birds use! Hmm... I think it's a problem that my cooler weighs twice as much as my suitcase... Maybe it's a bigger problem that my brothers will probably all bring this much alcohol and that all of it will be gone by the end of holiday? Hyvää juhannusta! <3 --Rakkaudella!
